Are you off to buy another new baby a gift or Should you buy a gift for a new baby or buy a gift for new parents?
As new parents we receive so many beautiful little outfits and cool hipster printed vests but when the nappies and prams are gathering dust it is nice to have a timeless memento of the joy that those early days brings to your life.
I have gathered together a selection of my pieces which are very popular with new parents.
This is my little stork, this feathered friend traditionally brought every bundle of joy (I’m liking this idea maybe we should have a revival)
My grandmother at a great story for each of her children, like Joe coming from a tin of baked beans or Pat being found under a head of cabbage or even the midwife bringing the new baby in her midwifery bag on the back of her bike.
This hand crafted ceramic tile depicts a stylised stork delivering a beautiful bundle with the quote “Every child begins the world again” . This framed Stork tile piece would hang lovely on the wall of a nursery.
“Mighty oaks from little acorns grow” is the line that influences this piece which reminds us that from even the smallest great things can be achieved. The idea for this piece came to me when I first became an aunt in 2007. The birth of nephew came as a wonderful 30th Birthday present and changed my perspective so profoundly. Miracles become so possible!
“adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience” is a gentle message to all new parents to enjoy the time they have with their baby as it won’t be long before they’re grown. My first boy loves me to tell him how long I held him for as a baby. I can just about hold him now but this time has gone oh so fast. One day when he was only 18 months I was listening to the song Galway Girl in the car. I was so struck with the thoughts of him growing and leaving with someone from the other side of the country or world, that I found myself crying at the traffic lights!
“Carry your love forever” is the gentle message that our babies will only be small for a short while and we will hold them tight. They will grow and as we face the future we will always carry their love close. I sketched this from a photo, it was day with a wide open sky, Boy no. 1 was running ahead over the big wide sand but no. 2 was still snuggling into me. I know when we are on the beach next he will be running with him!
I think you’ll agree these are all pieces you’d be happy to have in your home long after the lego hits the attic and maybe even be a suitable gift for an empty nester who is has forgotten the sleepless nights yet missing who wee baby snuggles.
We can get the baby involved. I can take imprints of your new little fingers and toes as lasting proof they were once that small really!
