Tests were performed on a random bunch of people. 4 exactly the same chocolate brownie, 1 in a paper bag, 1 on a paper plate ,1 on a desert plate and one on a fancy plate dusted with icing sugar. The participants had to score each brownie on moistness, richness and over all taste and quality
Guess what – out of 4 identical brownies the cake on the fancy plate won in each category with every participant!
We’ve all heard the stories about the dinner party host being caught with the take away cartons in the bin. If the cartons hadn’t been found would the guests have copped on.
Of course if you put tasteless food on fancy plates you won’t fool everyone.
So it’s all about presentation or is it?
I was thinking about this story this week while we were photographing my Impressed Rectangular Platter. Rory first photographed this platter ten years ago and the new photographs pose the question, is it the food that makes the platter or the platter which makes the food look good?
